What I’m Doing for My Varicose Veins (And Why I Finally Decided to Try)
I’ve had varicose veins since my early 20s.
For years, I was basically told, “Nothing can really be done about them,” or that they were just genetic and I’d have to live with them. So I ignored them for a long time.
But a couple months ago, I decided that even if I couldn’t completely “fix” them, I could at least support my body and circulation naturally and see if it helped at all.
I am noticing small changes.
The biggest one: some mornings I wake up and there’s no puffiness around my veins. That might sound small, but for me, that’s huge progress.
I recently shared my compression socks on Instagram stories and so many women messaged me saying they also struggle with varicose veins, swelling, or visible veins, so I wanted to share exactly what I’ve been consistently doing for the past 2 months.
1. Legs Up the Wall Every Day
One of the simplest things I’ve been doing is laying on the floor with my legs up against the wall for a few minutes every day.
It looks silly, but it feels so good.
This position helps encourage blood flow back toward the heart instead of pooling in the legs, which is one of the main issues with varicose veins. When blood sits in the veins for too long, it can create pressure and swelling.
I especially like doing this after a long day of standing, walking, or working around the house.
Even just 5–10 minutes can make a difference.
2. Using Vein Aid Essential Oil Blend Daily
I’ve also been rubbing Plant Therapy’s Vein Aid blend over my veins every single day.
This blend contains essential oils traditionally used to support circulation and soothe the appearance of veins, including:
Cypress
Helichrysum
Lemon
Grapefruit
Juniper Berry
Lavender
Peppermint
Geranium
I apply it morning and night, it feels cooling and relaxing.
Obviously, essential oils aren’t going to magically erase veins overnight but I do think consistently supporting circulation and inflammation has helped.
And taking a few minutes to massage the area probably helps encourage circulation too.
3. Wearing Compression Socks Almost Every Day
This has probably made the biggest difference.
I wear compression socks almost every day now, especially on days when I know I’ll be walking a lot, standing for long periods, traveling, or cleaning.
Compression socks help gently support the veins and improve circulation by encouraging blood to move upward instead of pooling in the lower legs.
I used to think compression socks were only for older people or medical situations, but there are actually so many comfortable and cute options now.
After sharing mine on Instagram, I realized how many women quietly deal with the same thing.
4. Icing My Varicose Veins
Another thing I’ve been doing is icing the areas that look swollen.
Cold therapy can temporarily help reduce inflammation and puffiness by constricting blood vessels and calming irritated tissue.
I usually use my facial ice roller, but an ice pack wrapped in a thin towel works too.
I don’t expect my varicose veins to magically disappear overnight.
But I’ve realized that just because something is common doesn’t mean we can’t support our bodies naturally and try habits that may help improve circulation and appearance over time.
The biggest thing for me has been consistency.
None of these habits are dramatic on their own, but together, I feel encouraged by the small changes I’ve noticed over the past couple months.
