Top 10 Ways to Use Geranium Essential Oil

Geranium essential oil is derived from the steam distillation of the leaves, stems, and flowers of the Pelargonium graveolens plant, which is native to South Africa. It is important to note that there are many different species of geranium, but Pelargonium graveolens is the species most commonly used in essential oil production.

Geranium plants are typically grown in warm, dry climates with well-draining soil. They are commonly cultivated in countries such as Egypt, China, and Morocco. Geranium oil is often sourced from these countries, as well as France and Russia.

Overall, geranium essential oil is a valuable and versatile oil that offers a wide range of benefits for the skin, hormones, mood, respiratory health, and more. When used responsibly, geranium oil can be a valuable tool in promoting overall health and wellbeing. In this blog post, we’ll talk about all these top benefits!

Balancing Skin

Geranium essential oil is a versatile oil that is known for its many benefits for the skin. One of its most notable benefits is its ability to balance it. This is especially useful for those with combination or oily skin, as geranium oil helps regulate oil production, reducing excess oil on the skin's surface.

In addition to its oil-regulating properties, geranium oil is also great for hydrating and nourishing dry skin. It contains natural compounds that help to retain moisture in the skin, leaving it soft and supple. This makes it a great choice for those with dry, dehydrated skin.

Geranium oil has also been shown to improve the overall texture and appearance of the skin. It contains natural astringent properties that help to tighten and firm the skin, reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. It is also rich in antioxidants, which help to protect the skin from environmental stressors that can cause premature aging.

My fave way to use it is either putting a drop in to my moisturizer or using in my DIY face scrub (see recipe below!)

Antibacterial + Wound Healing

Geranium oil has shown antibacterial effects, which can help in preventing and treating minor infections on the skin. Geranium oil may also support wound healing due to its ability to promote cell regeneration and reduce inflammation. Dilute with a carrier oil and apply around a wound, do not apply on broken skin.

Astringent

Astringents work by causing the skin to contract, which can help reduce the appearance of pores and improve overall skin texture. When applied to the skin, geranium oil can provide a tightening effect that can leave the skin looking and feeling smoother and more toned. This makes geranium oil a great choice for those with aging or mature skin, as it can help reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.
